About 3D Printing Metal Materials for Aerospace, Drone and Boat

SLM metal 3D printing is commonly used to fabricate metal components for the aerospace, drone, and shipbuilding industries.

The commonly used metal materials include:

  1. General – purpose materials:
  • Ti – 6Al – 4V is used for aerospace fuselage structural components, engine mounts, drone frames, gimbal connectors, ship deep – sea exploration components, and high – end lightweight structural components.
  • AlSi10Mg is used for aerospace in – cabin structural components, drone frames, arms, landing gears, lightweight components of ship superstructures, and navigation equipment brackets.
  • 316L is used for aerospace non – high – temperature pipelines/valves, precision connectors of drones in high – humidity environments, ship seawater pipelines, pump bodies, and cabin structural components.
  • 17 – 4 PH is used for aerospace fasteners, bearing housings, precision transmission components of drones, high – end valve cores, and hydraulic components of ships.

2. Aerospace special materials include:

  • Nickel – based superalloys (Inconel718/625, Haynes282) are used for engine turbine disks, blades, and rocket body structural components.
  • High – temperature titanium alloys (TC11/21) are used for engine fan blades, compressor components, and fuselage landing gears.
  • Copper alloys such as CuCrZr are used for engine cooling channels and rocket nozzle linings.

3. Drone special materials include:

  • Scalmalloy scandium – aluminum alloy is used for high – end frames and load – bearing structural components.
  • Magnesium alloys (AZ31B/AZ91D/WE43) are used for lightweight frames of small drones.
  • CoCrMo is used for precision transmission components and gimbal connectors.

4. Ship/Boat special materials include:

  • 2205 duplex stainless steel is used for subsea valves and offshore platform connectors.
  • 904L is used for chemical transportation pipelines.
  • Monel 400 is used for propeller blades, ship – used pump bodies, and deep – sea equipment casings.
  • Hastelloy C276 is used for components of deep – sea extreme – environment exploration equipment.
